Artist Statement
Asidesach Debebe

As a fine arts artist, graphic designer, and software engineer, my work embodies the intersection of creativity and technology. My artistic practice is rooted in traditional techniques such as drawing, painting, and sculpture, while my professional experience in software engineering allows me to explore innovative digital mediums. This duality informs my approach to art-making, where I aim to create pieces that resonate on both aesthetic and conceptual levels.
My artistic vision revolves around exploring human experience through visual storytelling. I strive to capture emotions, narratives, and the complexities of life in my artwork. The themes I often engage with include identity, connection, and the passage of time. I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection in the viewer by utilizing various materials and techniques- from oil paints to scratching graphics.
The creative process is both intuitive and analytical. In my studio practice, I begin by immersing myself in research through literature, personal experiences, or technological advancements. This phase often leads to brainstorming sessions where I sketch ideas freely without constraints. Once I have a more precise direction, I refine these concepts into more structured compositions.
In parallel to my fine arts practice, my work as a graphic designer and software engineer involves creating visual solutions for clients across different industries. This role has honed my skills in design principles such as color theory, typography, and layout composition. The technical knowledge gained from software engineering further enhances my ability to manipulate digital tools effectively.
Art should foster dialogue between the artist and the audience. Through exhibitions or interactive installations, I aim to create immersive experiences that invite viewers to engage with the work on multiple levels. Whether through thought-provoking imagery or interactive elements that respond to user input, my goal is to encourage reflection and discussion about the themes presented.
Ultimately, my identity as an artist and a software engineer allows me to navigate between two worlds, one grounded in tradition and one propelled by innovation. This unique perspective enriches my artistic output while also challenging conventional boundaries within both fields. As I continue this journey of exploration and creation, I remain committed to producing work that resonates deeply with audiences while pushing the limits of what art can be.
