About the Artist
Fetun Getachew is a dedicated studio artist and emerging event organizer with over a decade of experience in the arts. She is a full-time studio artist at the Workhouse Arts Center, where she creates and showcases her work while engaging with the artistic community. Her passion for teaching has led her to work with various institutions, inspiring students of all ages to explore their creativity through painting and cultural art forms.
Fetun has taught art at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church since 2018, leading weekly and summer programs emphasizing traditional and spiritual themes. She has also taught Amharic and art at the Abugida Language and Cultural Center from 2020 to 2024, fostering a deeper connection between language and visual expression. Additionally, she served as an art instructor at The Art League in the summer of 2023 and previously taught at the Greek Community School in Ethiopia from 2006 to 2011. Beyond teaching, Fetun is passionate about creating engaging art experiences. She has launched a ‘Make and Take’ program, where participants learn acrylic painting techniques, including Ethiopian Orthodox iconography. She is also organizing a three-day art exhibition featuring live painting, discussions, and interactive sessions to connect artists and audiences meaningfully.
As a founding member of ASHARA, a group of Ethiopian artists based in the U.S., Fetun actively shapes the collective’s vision and goals. With her background in both art and event organization, she is focused on curating impactful artistic experiences that celebrate culture, creativity, and community engagement.
Fetun’s work continues to evolve as she merges her artistic talents with her growing interest in event planning, making art more accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.

Market Colors Art Team is a collective dedicated to capturing the vibrancy, energy, and cultural richness of markets worldwide, with a special focus on Ethiopian marketplaces. Through bold colors, dynamic compositions, and expressive brushwork, we bring to life the stories of traders, artisans, and everyday people who make markets the heart of a community. Inspired by the open-air markets of Ethiopia—where spices, textiles, and handmade crafts create a sensory feast—we celebrate the textures, patterns, and movements found in these bustling spaces. Our work reflects the intersection of tradition and modernity, honoring the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Ethiopian markets while embracing their evolving role in contemporary life. By blending realism with abstraction, we aim to evoke nostalgia, connection, and appreciation for the markets that sustain culture, commerce, and human interaction across generations.
